Bud
was born in 1993, maybe even 1992. We had been in our new house in
Flagstaff just over a year when we decided to look for another dog. I
had my heart set on getting another lab like Valentine. We visited the
local shelter at least once or twice a week, looking for just the right
dog. My x-boyfriend noticed Bud, and at first I wasnt too keen on Bud and wanted to keep
looking. It became
apparent to me that every time we went to the shelter, Bud was still
there, looking
up at us longingly every time we passed his run. I was starting to feel sorry for him. I even asked the employee's
if anyone had shown interest in him, they said "no". We arranged for the
animal control officer to bring him out to the visiting area so we could
look at him. The minute the officer released him from the leash, he came running over to me and laid down across my feet.
Needless to say, Bud came home with us. Sometimes I call him "Budly"
or "Bud Man", and he loves to run as fast as he can, in
circles
around the other dogs, trying to provoke them into chasing him.
In 2007 Bud started to suffer from Arthritis, then the following year it was deterioration of the spine and hip dysplasia. As crippled as he became, he never cried or showed pain, he'd struggle to follow me everywhere I went, but he was determined to stay by my side. I finally decided to let him go on July 13th 2009. Surrounded by lots of love and admiration. |
