Rosie
Rosie was born Feb. 92, we adopted her during the L.A riots. We saw a heart-wrenching story on the news about all these animals ending up in the shelters for one reason or another, and they were so overcrowded that they were going to take drastic measures. She was a great addition to our family, she was very bright, affectionate, and learned quickly. Rosie is a lover and a protector. When we go hiking, if we come across another dog that is aggressive, and of course they always want to pick on Bud or Ralph, Rosie jumps right in to protect her siblings. She loves to sit outside on the deck and warn me of anyone’s approach. In December of 2000 she was diagnosed with Masticatory Myositis, an autoimmune disease that affects the muscles in the head as well as the jaw. She's not in any pain now but the muscles in her head have atrophied and she looks different. There is no cure, so we're just taking it one day at a time.

*On Wednesday June 8th, I saw Rosie lying in the driveway and she didn't get up when I called her. I helped her into the house and called the vet, after a short discussion I got her to the vet's office. They put her to sleep shortly thereafter. It turns out Rosie had a mass on her spleen that ruptured and she bled out very quickly, she was too far gone to be saved. I'm glad it was fast for her sake but I wasn't ready for her to go. I almost wish she had been sick for a while like Ralph so I could prepare myself.
